Apple Basket by Cathy

Hi Samantha Walker fans!  Cathy here sharing a quick back to school project with you!  I created this adorable little apple basket for my granddaughter Raini to give to her teacher on her first day of First Grade!  So easy and it really only took a matter of minutes to put together for her!

I used papers from Samantha's

 Carta Bella Summer Lovin' Collection and a bit of black card stock.  I kept the basket the original size, the only thing I added was some Silhouette Sketch pen stitching on the handle and stem with a Green Sketch Pen.

After putting the basket together, I cut the First Grade title, I did have to reduce the size of the file.  Just measure your basket and decide on how big or small you want it!

Adhere the words together and adhere to the basket, fill with pencils or whatever other fun back to school items and a simple tie of red ribbon to accent!

Raini loved it and that's all that really matters.

Rough and Tumble Layout by Diana Fisher

Hello! Diana Fisher here with you today sharing a layout using the Rough and Tumble collection from Carta Bella by Samantha Walker. 

At first glance, this collection does seem a little young for an older boy, but I really love the neutral tones and navy in the collection. Throw in the argyle pattern, and Rough and Tumble is perfect for documenting my 7-year-old son.

I didn't take any step-by-step pictures (mostly because I could not hold my camera and a hole punch at the same time), but I do have a tip for you when you work with this collection.

You can see below the strip of yellow "tickets" layered under the photo. Here are some tips on getting that ticket look from a border strip sheet of 12x12 paper.

That border strip is from the paper called Explore Together. If you cut the strips horizontally, use one of the strips that has the pre-notched ticket pattern in the paper. Once you have it separated from the rest of the paper, take your little hole punch (hand held will work much better than a 3-hole punch) and line it up so that you are punching each side of the notches. 

Do that all the way down the border on each side. You can see in the image above that it really looks like a line of tickets rather than a straight-edge border strip.

1. Using a chevron stamp from Pattern Basics, stamp on the glassine bag using VersaMark ink. Heat emboss using embossing powder. Do the same thing with the sentiment using black embossing powder. 

2. Layer two different pieces of patterned paper on the cardstock base. Adhere the glassine bag, and different chipboard elements. Add sequins to the card front.

3 drawer stack Silhouette Tutorial

Today I'm going to show you how to assemble the 3 drawer stack that appeared in the Silhouette store this week.

Cut the number of each piece as specified in the above picture.

I cut my pieces out of my Saddle Up! collection for Carta Bella.

 Crease all perforated edges of the drawer insert. 

 Fold over the flaps that adjoin to the tab side. 

 Fold over the next pair of flaps so that they capture the tabs underneath. 

 The drawer insert will hold together without glue, but you are welcome to add a little glue if you wish.

Now fold all three drawer insets.

 Now you will fold three drawer cases. First fold over the ends and glue them down. This will reinforce the lip where the drawer slides in and out. Crease all fold lines.

Fold the drawer case to the center, then glue the small flap in between and glue it to the bottom flap, then fold the top flap and glue it to the ones you just glued together. (putting the small flap in between the larger flaps will allow for the drawer to slide without catching.)

Here's an example of one finished drawer.

Fold and glue 3 drawer cases, then stack and glue them with a paper friendly glue like Tombo Mono Adhesive.

 Fold the outside wrap around the drawer case stack. 

 Attach the feet with small brads to the wrap around before you fold and close them. The button side of the brad will end up on the inside of the foot. 

 Once the four feet are folded and glued, fold the wrap around the drawers. 

Secure the bottom joining piece with glue.

Add the details like the drawer handles with brads. The inside flaps of the drawers are designed to hide the back side of the brads. (the brads will only go through one of the layers.) Project can be modified by substituting glue dots for brads. 

This stack of drawers is perfect for little treats, three cookies, jewelry, or whatever you would like. Just use your imagination!
