This week in the Silhouette design store I'm releasing a few new versions of my circle handle purse. One mimics the look of tooled leather, another features a fall spray of foliage. You can follow along the directions of my original circle handle purse and here, and just add the "tooled-leather" look layer. I do recommend attaching this layer with a fine tipped paper glue such as Tombow Mono liquid adhesive. Another great way to attach this detailed layer would be to use adhesive backed paper.

These new circle pouch designs are simple to make and only require glue to attach the contrasting background that highlights the front design. You can easily assemble multiples of these and are recommended as party favors because of their simple assembly. Just simple fold and interlock tabs! Fill them with small gifts such a scented bars soap, hand sanitizers, little chocolate boxes, bags of candy or more.

Hello Sunshine Trapezoid Purse with Cathy

Hi Samantha Walker fans!  Cathy sharing a spring project with you using Samantha's purse and purse gift card Silhouette Files.  I have a friend who has been a little blue and under the weather, I wanted to create a little gift for her that would brighten her day like the sunshine.  

I knew when I saw this 

Trapezoid Purse with Circle Handle and Pocket

that it would be perfect.  I knew that I could add the Hello Sunshine into the pocket, I simply backed the negative cut with some yellow dotted card stock!

First, ungroup all of the purse pieces and just cut the four sides of your purse.  I used Samantha Walker's 

Carta Bella Giddy Up Girl Collection.

 Next, cut your pocket with you choice of paper, I chose to work with the same pattern.  I just reduced the Hello Sunshine file to fit inside the pocket.  I just eyeballed it to center it!  Once you have this cut, cut a piece of card stock to fit and back your negative cut.

 I then cut four handle pieces, since I was using a textured card stock, I wanted to have the same appearance and texture on the inside and outside of the purse.  Just glue two piece together for each handle!

 Now on to the assembly of the purse..I followed Samantha's awesome instructions.  You can find the instructions for all of her Purse Silhouette Files here.  I used Scor-tape and a bit of hot glue to adhere mine...I really wanted the sides to be super strong as I filled it with all the goodies below. 

 I filled it with everything I could find that was yellow to represent the sun and things I know that she will love!

And just as luck would have it, the day I finished creating the purse, Samantha designed matching gift card purses and envelopes to go with all of her super cute designs.  Of course, I had to make

 How cute are these envelopes that the handle sticks out of the top.  Seriously, she thinks of every little detail.  Love that!  I added one of Samantha's new Layered Flowers to the front of the envelope!

Spring Treat Purse Bags by Pinky

Hey there SW friends, 

It's Pinky today and I am so excited about these new Purse Files from Samantha!

I decided since it is spring and Easter is also approaching, 

I wanted to make my girlfriends gift "purses" with candy in them.

Because I am super rad like that~ 

I fell in love with this Purse With A Circle Handle and knew

I wanted to make my "baskets" out of them. 

Now you can see I stitched mine on the tooling....when I say I...

I mean I bribed a friend to do it! 

I drug her to a really boring event and put a needle in her hand...

then bought her pizza- so thank you Melissa Cook, you all

can appreciate what a great job she did!

The perforations are perfect to stitch with needle and thread. 

 After the front and back were stitched, I folded all the edges over and

covered them with strong adhesive. 

 Then I also covered the sides with adhesive for extra sturdy 

sticking since I was going to put candy in it.

I attached the sides. 

 Then followed the same ideas with the adhesive for the button flap. 

 I pressed inside with my fingers making sure everything was adhered. 

 Then I attached the circle handles and added this bow.

Now there are flowers but I loved the bow so much, I just

couldn't put anything else on it.

 Except a strand of pearls around the handles. 

After it was completed I filled it with lace and candy- 

Now who doesn't love lacy and candy!

Silhouette Mini Tutorial: Circle Handle Purse Variations

Thanks for all your support on the Purse with Circle Handle cutting file I uploaded into the Silhouette Store the other day. I thought since you seemed to like that one, that I'd play with some variations.

These variations add a little character to your purse, as we all know, the perfect purse makes the outfit. Now it will be easy to choose exactly what you need.

These purses go together much in the same way as the circle handle flower purse I showed you on my blog the other day. The base of all of these purses go together like the flower circle handle purse, so  click here to see those instructions to get you started, then come back here to finish up with the details.
Today, I will just show you how I assembled the diamond lattice circle handle purse; since it has a significant variation.  The clover and the floral lace versions should be easy to figure out, so I don't have further instructions on those--just add the front layer pieces with glue and brads. So consider this a "mini-tutorial" or part B of the other tutorial.

You will need a Silhouette cutting machine to cut these files out. 

For those of you who are new to my blog, and may not have heard about the Silhouette electronic cutting machine (the machine I used to cut this file out,) I put together a product review at this link. You can read other's reviews of the machine here.

File Set Up in the Studio Software:

First, when you open this file, you will notice that I did not duplicate some of the main pieces. This was a decision I made in order to make the file smaller in size and easier to edit. Sometimes too many pieces hanging off the live cutting area will get lost when you ungroup them, so I wanted to try to keep most of the parts in view. You will notice that some of the pieces have instructions like "cut 2" or  "cut 4." So you will need to copy and paste some of the parts a few times to get the number that you need. Just move what you want to cut first into the live cutting area. The mini flowers are optional, and you can cut as few or as many as you would like. I attached a few mini flowers with turquoise brads and alternated with silver brads. If you are choosing not to use the mini flowers, you can ungroup the purse front, and select just the brad holes to delete them. I made them in their own group so you could select all of them at the same time.

1. Put brads through the itty bitty flowers. You will see a tiny hole in the center of each flower that was cut by your silhouette to be a guide for your brads. Ink the edges of the flowers if you wish with a small stamping ink pad, like ColorBox Cat's Eyes. Hint: It's easier to ink the edges after the brads go in. You can hold onto the end of the brad, and turn it with your fingers to easily ink all the edges.

2. If you opted not to do any flowers, just simply glue the front diamond pattern piece onto the purse front that has the little "teeth" around it. That's the only different thing for those of you going this route, then you would follow the directions in the other post.

3-4. If you do choose to add the flowers or brads, here's the thing about this file. I was thinking if you poke several brads through the front, you are not going to necessarily want to see the mess on the back. So what I did to prevent that, was just put the brads through the top layer of the purse. Look for the centering dots on both the diamond front piece, and poke your flowers through. 

5. Now that the brads are in, we'll glue that piece to the purse front with all the "teeth" on it. Make sure to use a good paper glue that will hold well and not warp your paper. Put glue around all the edges, and also dot it around on the backside between the brads so that it doesn't buckle when you adhere it. Smooth it into place, taking care to see that all the edges are lined up and sealed.

6. After it is dry (only a few minutes if you use a good paper glue like Tombow) then fold down all the teeth. 

7. Actually this photo was supposed to go between photos 4 and 5. It's just showing the diamond layer smoothed on nicely.

8. Do these steps twice to make a front and back to your purse. You may opt to do a plain back if you wish.

To make the circle bag, you will need this Equipment:

a digital cutting machine capable of cutting .studio files like the Silhouette Cameo or SVG files with the Cricut cutting machine.

To make the Circle Handle Purse, you will need this Silhouette file:

Size:

The default finished size of the purse is approximately 8 X 7, and can easily be resized to your liking in the silhouette studio software.

Paper: 
I used the red dot paper from my Giddy Up collection for Carta Bella. (This pattern can be found on the backside of the journaling cards). I also used aqua textured card stock also from Carta Bella, silver line textured card stock from American Craft. 
Other Supplies:

Wonder ClipsBrads
Tombow Mono Multi Liquid Glue

aqua ink from a color box queue

Studio Software set up:
If you are using a Silhouette Cameo, when you open the file, this file will not all fit on the live cutting area. You need to ungroup the set to move the parts into the live cutting area to correspond with the color of paper you want those items cut in. An easy way to achieve two colors is to use double sided card stock. A fun option for the handles is to use wood grain card stock or metallic card stock. Cut 4 circles if you are not using double sided card stock so that your card stock is pretty on both sides of the handles. Cut 2 of the bottom rectangle pieces, one will be used as the liner of the purse.

Instructions:

1. Since I chose a card stock that was not double sided, I cut 4 circle handle pieces. Glue them back to back in sets of two.

2. Fold the side pieces as show. (please note that I modified the file after this construction so that the angle of the diagonal dashed lines goes to the top of the side.) Ink the edges if you desire. 

3. Fold all the tabs around the front and back purse pieces. Hint: make sure you fold on the right dashed line. There are also decorative "stitching lines" that are dashed. Those dashed lines will not be folded. Ink the edges if you wish.

4. I held up the front of the purse to a light so you can see the faux stitching better.

5. Glue the sides of the purse on. Use a good fast-drying paper glue. You can hold the sides while drying with Wonder Clips.

6-9. Smooth the tabs down while the glue is wet. You can smooth from the inside and the outside. Work the curve into your card stock so it goes around the corner nicely.

10-12. Glue the bottom onto the purse by centering it over the bottom tabs. You will want to make sure that it is centered quickly as your glue will start to dry and you won't be able to move it later.  Carefully work the bottom around the curve. Smooth down the tabs. 

13-14. Glue the second rectangle bottom piece on the inside of the purse as a liner.

15. Ink the edges of all the little flowers and thread brads through them where the center hole is cut. It is a tiny hole to make sure that the brad fits snug. 

16. Attach the flowers where there are tiny cut holes in the purse front and back.

17. Gather the pieces of the large flower, and layer them together. Ink the edges, then curl the flower petals. 

18. Attach the large flowers where the tiny circle is on the middle of the purse.

19-20. Glue the circle handles onto the purse.

Collect and make a bunch of paper purses and use them as decorations on a ledge
