Easter Banner with Guest Designer Arin!

Hello it is Arin Flynn here and am I excited to share my first project as a 2014 Samantha Walker Creative Team Guest Designer. I decided that I wanted to show how simple you can make a cute and bright spring banner just using one cut, some laser cut wooden pennants, linen, and a few other embellishments. This little guy was turned out just in time to greet Mr. Cottontail!

 

 Let's "hop" right into how I did this. (A full supply list will be included at the end of this post). Heading over to the Silhouette Store, I found this cute Samantha Walker Bunny cut file. Once downloaded into my Silhouette software, I ungrouped the shape and moved the detailed layer off the page just keeping the silhouette of the bunny. I measured my wooden pennants and set the dimensions of my bunny.

Using a sturdy white cardstock, I cut ONE, yest I said it, ONLY ONE cut. This will be the template to trace onto the linen fabric. Can it get any easier than that?

 

 Once all the bunnies I wanted to add some character to each little guy and ran it through my Cuttlebug Embosser using Swiss Dot. It really gave it great shape and texture. Then I ran each bunny through my Xyon 5 inch Creative Station (any adhesive of choice will work) and set aside.

Using the smaller wooden pennants as a template, I traced, cut and added faux stitching to the linen fabric.

I ran the linen pennants through my Xyron 5 inch Creative Station (any adhesive of choice will work) and placed them onto the wooden pennants. Using hot glue I added some buttons and some fabric letters I had on hand.

Using some scrapbook paper I had on hand, I traced the larger of the wooden pennants, cut and set onto the base using my tape gun (any adhesive of choice will work) and inked the edges.

 

 Once all the bases and smaller pennants were done, I added the bunnies, the button tails with bows made of baker's twine and hot glued them to the bottoms of each bunny. I then used a large gauge needle and ran baker's twine through the tops of each pennants stringing them together and using the pre-punched holes at the guide.

 

 This project was not only super simple and easy to do, but there is something therapeutic about just simply tracing and cutting and with this bunny cut from Samantha Walker, it could not have been any easier.

Banners Card Set Tutorial by Maya

Hello, Samantha Walker fans! 

This is Maya, sharing with you a simple card set.

I like giving card sets as gifts. I am always looking for simple and cute designs that can be mass produced easily and are not too bulky.

To make the card, ppen the Samantha Walker Bunting Borders cut file  in Silhouette Design software and reduce the width to 6". Do not forget to click "Lock Aspect Ratio".

Ungroup and drag all banners expect one outside the canvas. Duplicate the shape as many times as needed and arrange on the cutting mat. Cut and repeat the same process with other banners.

I used new 12x12 sheets of paper so I cut all colors separately. If you are using smaller pieces of paper you can cut all banners at the same time.

I used beautiful papers from Samantha Walker Traditions Collection from Carta Bella and American Crafts pearl cardstock

After everything is cut, the fun part begins.  Layer the banners using dimensional adhesive. I like that each card looks a little different. I finished the cards by stamping a sentiment from Samantha Walker "Buntings and Banners" stamp set and by adding a thin line of glitter to the top banner.

I made a band for my card set using the label from the 12 piece tag set.

I cut the inner oval from different patterned paper and added a wood veneer bird and few glittery dots.

I wrapped the band around the stack of 6 cards and 6 enveloped and secured with adhesive on the back. All done!

One-Piece Banner Tutorial by Diana Fisher

Hello! Diana here with you today. A couple of weekends ago I picked up a frame at Hobby Lobby. I love it! It is the perfect color, style and texture for the space in the front entrance of my home. It practically blends into the wall.

Being a big fan of adding pops of color, I've been walking past this mirror knowing that it was going to need just a bit of something added to it. 

I love to make banners, but the idea of cutting out all of those little pennants was making my head hurt — until I remembered a bunting/border cut file from Samantha Walker. All of the little pennants are together as one cut, but still slightly curved — like you would want from an individually-cut banner.

I deleted the two banner styles I didn't want, and then re-sized the two I did want to use. I duplicated them and put them into pairs with the triangles at the top and the rounded ones at the bottom. 

I am a big fan of only cutting once, so I have both colors I wanted on the same sheet (top and bottom).

I came across an umbrella cut from Samantha Walker that is both a border and separate umbrellas. I deleted the border, singled out two umbrellas I wanted and then fit them to the sheet in the size I wanted (about 2.5" high). I cut those from yellow, but any bright color would work. I think magenta or purple may have also looked great here, too.

The white banner is adhered to the blue on with foam dots. I used platinum twine to add bows to the end of one of the banner sets and it runs behind one, too, for an extra shimmery layer.

The umbrellas are just hanging from the banner from their little hooks. I also added some white gel pen faux stitching to the blue banners and the umbrellas.

This file is designed larger than the mat.  To cut this file, cut the pieces that are on the cutting mat in one color then simply slide down the other part into the active area and cut in a contrasting color.  This way you will not have to ungroup and regroup!

Please note, designs may not be up in the store at the beginning of the week, but they have been uploaded to the queue. Watch for them as the queue rolls out the new designs!
