Guest Designer Jimmi Mayo!

I'm excited to announce that I'm starting a new feature on my blog this month and will be sharing the work of a guest designer once or twice a month. I'm starting with the AWESOME Jimmi Mayo. She is on the Unity Stamp Co. Design team, and does beautiful design work. I interviewed her this week and here is what she had to say.

What got you into paper artistry?
Well, my sister was having a SU! home party and wanted some yummy snacks for her friend and since I am the cook and she is not...she invited me to come over and cook some snacks and hang out for the afternoon....VERY quickly I realized that stamping and paper were the 2 coolest things ever and I pretty much took over the table and starting telling her friends what I thought was a good idea/cuter/fancier to do with the stamps...not sure if the demo loved me for that but I was so excited and literally that very minute tons of ideas started swirling around in my mind and I was HOOKED!

What is your favorite technique?
I absolutely love Paper Piecing, (I did it on the pumpkins stems)! I think this is because I am not the best at coloring, not so great with colored pencils or Copic markers (demo of Copic markers). It's so much fun and so much easier to just cut and play paper dolls with the stamps! Also, I love how that makes everything "matchy-matchy" on the project.

What do you think makes your work unique?
I definitely like to do what I do best and not change my style to suit popular styles of the moment, I just call it "Jimmi~Style"...it's a little bit quick and easy with a little bit of froo-froo thrown in.

What inspires you?

I am always inspired by pretty paper! Patterned papers are my very favorite stamping necessity! I will almost always start my card with the paper and then use that as my inspiration for the stamps and colors I use.
I'm also inspired by my daughter to make funky/cool things and my nieces are my inspiration for anything that is all girl in style, they are just so cute!

Besides crafting...tell a little about yourself... and anything else that might interest readers...
I have an 18 year-old daughter! I know....kind of crazy since I can't possibly be older than 21, LOL...(oh yeah, I like to be a comedian!). (this is Samantha stepping in to vouch that Jimmi does look like she's 21...she's aged very well...or she keeps using profile pictures of herself when she was 21--Jimmi, you look great!) She is such a great daughter, caring, gorgeous, honest, spiritual, kind and basically perfect (to her dad and I at least)...such a joy to be around...definitely not the typical teenager, thank goodness! I am also the mommy to 2 furry girls...my Rotador, Tara and yellow lab, Caco, they are seriously the loves of my life...I'm pretty sure the human daughter is jealous of them. I LOVE to shop as often as possible...that's my 2nd hobby, I love shoes and clothes and sunglasses...cardigans....mmmm, Oh my! I'm on the Unity Stamp Co. design team. I also volunteer at Splitcoast Stampers as a gallery moderator and moderator and coordinator for their Virtual Stamp Night weekends, 4 times a year. I hope y'all like the cards I made for you with Samantha's GORGEOUS products, they are beyond fun to play with!

Jimmi used paper and fabrics from my Wanna Be a Cowboy collection for Creative Imaginations, and Riley Blake Designs. She also used stamps from my Halloween and Saddle Up stamp sets for Unity Stamp Co.
